Happy birthday, KBS World Radio!

I'm a couple days late, but that's because I'm still recuperating from the celebrations! KBS World Radio celebrated its 55th birthday last Friday. The first KBSWR broadcast aired on August 15, 1943 with a 15-minute transmission in English. The family grew to include ten more language services, but English service still celebrates its birth every August 15th. It was a big day in wider Korea, too, with the nation honoring the anniversaries of its independence from Japanese colonial rule (August 15, 1945) and the establishment of the Republic of Korea (August 15, 1948). Seems like a fortuitous date . . . I should plan something big for next August 15. Below, some photos from an English team outing in celebration of . . . us (and, of course, all of those who have made "us" possible over the years).

What's a Korean party without noraebang (singing room)?!

Sure Abby,
"Seoul Survivor" is a name I use in forums, and the KPI/(then)M-Track "message board". I was in Seoul in 1999, at a convention called KoBA, at the COEX. This is where I got my tremendous love and respect for the Korean culture and Koreans in general.

Hey, Vic

I asked about "Seoul Survivor" because there's an expat rugby team with the same name (well, "Seoul SurvivorS").

Hope you're having a great week!
